I'm reading a book by Bryan Peterson called "Understanding Exposure". What thing he mentions early in the book is the use of a Light Meter. However, I can seem to find mine.
If anyone could tell me where it is/what it looks like that would be very helpful. I've searched the manual but the work "indicator" comes up and I'm not sure if this is the same thing.
Thanks.
Scott

Look for exposure meter, or setting exposure in manual mode.

The G7 doesn't exactly have a light meter, per se. However, it is capable of performing light metering and displaying how relatively far above or below a standard exposure value that your current shutter speed is set for.

When shooting in M mode the light meter is on the right side of the display. It shows your current 'selected exposure', and compared to the 'standard exposure'.

Thank you everyone. This is very helpful. Now I know how to proceed with what I am learning in the book. Knowing that the "meter" relates to shutter speed is easy for me to understand. I appreciate everyones help.

You need to continue in the book. 8^) The meter relates to shutter speed, Aperture and ISO.

Thanks kvbarkley. Will do. I'm very happy now that I know what constitues a light meter on the G7. Now I can continue to the next page/chapter.

To make it more of an absolute reading to match the book, you probably want to set the metering mode to center-weighted average.

Thanks. I didn't know I could set the metering mode (nor did I know what it was 🙂 I'll remember "center-weighted average" and take a look at this. I just found a link that explains how to change the modes.
