Canon SX280 HS not able to use on my PC as a webcam. anytime I try to it just shows a black screen, it only works when I look at my pictures on my camera then it shows it, but I can't use it as a webcam. what's going on?

Hi and welcome to the forum:
Did you download and install the free Canon Webcam Utility? This is required to use a camera as a webcam.
Here is the link: How to download and install EOS Webcam Utility for Windows. (canon.com). You will require a compatible USB cable to connect to your PC.

Very few powershots are supported, and the SX280HS is not on the list, though it may work.

How are you connecting the camera to the computer?

Thanks for that. I was in the process of looking that up and got distracted by a firmware issue post. I guess the OP can try, but yep, I would not be surprised if it does not function.
I am amazed how many folks want to use a dedicated camera as a webcam, I just use the Logitech dedicated webcam or the ones on my laptops, but whatever...

My one and only general broadcast webcam experience used my T6i because I was live broadcasting a pre-school graduation during Covid restrictions. It worked out well. But for general skyping, the internal camera on the Monitor/phone works fine.
