I recently bought a secondhand Canon Powershot A450 and when I went to put in the SD card (2GB SDHC card), my camera wouldn’t turn on. If I take out the SD card and it still has its batteries in, the camera turns on. I’ve tried switching the little tab on the SD card as well as turning the camera on and off and nothing so far has worked. The insert for the SD card looks clean as well. Can’t figure out what could be the problem or how to fix it.

Got another SD card to try? This sounds odd, because the SD card is not the determiner of whether a camera turns on or not. Perhaps something is shorting out when a card is put in.

Hi bsidhehbdiwj,
Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The Powershot A45 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!
