imageClass MF656Cdw unable to install scanning function

Hi Canon Support,

Bought the subjetc printer on 18th Nov from Amazon Prime and it got delivered today. Opened it and trying to install the scanning function but cannot, for the last 2 hours am trying my level best to do it but it is not working.

I have used HP Printers throughout my life and ZERO problems in iinstallation or even mobile printing, this machine is a total diappointment from the start.

1- There was not Printer Cable (USB Type-B) inside the box, had to order separately.

2- The printer software is quite complicated and there is no single platform available like HpSmart for scanning, printing and doing other stuff.

3- It came with a software disk which had an older version of the printer and thanks God I had an external Disc Drive to try the installation.

It says it's plug & play but it is a shear disappointment, if the problems are not solved quikly, I will return this machine back and get HP.

Yours truly,

Adnan Akbar

1.  Nowhere on Amazon or the Canon web site does it say that the printer comes with a USB cable.

2.  Install the MF Scan Utility for scanning, and the printer software for printing.  Not that complex.

3.  I always ignore included CD's and install the latest software from the manufacturer's web site.  I suggest you do the same.

4.  The printer and software do have their quirks.  However, the printer can be finely tuned with its Remote UI web interface if you want to do that, to a greater extent than other printers.

5.  This is a Canon, not an HP.  It's not going to have the same software as an HP.  It will have better print quality and reliability, based on recent reviews of similar HP printers.  But if you want the HP software, return the Canon and get an HP.

Greetings,

While the printer supports multiple connection options, a wired or wireless network connect is the most convenient and flexible.  It allows any device connecting to your network to print.

USB is good for single computer installations where you don't want or don't have network connectivity available.  It's not usually people's first choice which is why a USB cable is not included.

I purchased my MF656Cdw at the beginning of this year.  Mine did not come with a installation CD.  Nor did I expect one.  Most manufacturers stopped including install media long ago.  It's basically outdated by the time a printer has sat in a retailers warehouse and you get it home.

Getting the latest drivers from the printers support portal is recommended.  Here is a link to the portal.  I suggest you get the drivers there.  They will be the most current and latest available.

I own 2 Canon laser printers currently and they are by far 2 of the best printers I've owned.  Fast, reliable and great print quality.  I've owned many inkjets too both HP and Canon, so have plenty of experience with both.  Canon is my preference.

The 656 is a great home or small office printer. We have a busy household and if it gave anyone problems, they would certainly become mine.  😯 So I'm happy to say that I haven't had to touch it except to load paper and grab printed documents from it.  The scan to email and file works perfectly and so does copying.

If you continue to have issues, let us know.  The printer also comes with a 3 yr warranty.  🙂
