imageCLASS MF751Cdw Unable to scan, burning smell

I keep getting error messages 600007,  600108, 600104. Cannot communicate with the scanner. I am able to print. I have added the scanner using both Bonjour and IP address, deleted and restarted MF Scan Utility multiple times to no avail. I also cannot scan from the machine as it won't find the computer. The machine is fairly new, perhaps 2 weeks old. I am running MacOS, Sonoma 14.1.2

also, there is an unusual slightly burnt smell when it prints. thinking of just returning this
