Why do all three of the colors of Toner for my ImageclassMF642 run out at the same time? Was it designed that way?

I will never cease to be amazed: The day I run out of yellow toner is also the day I run out of magenta and cyan toner. It is hard to believe I use the same amount of each color every time I print in color!!

Hello,
The toner levels drop as the toner is used, the toner cartridges are not designed to empty at the same time. With the MF642cdw, you can just replace a single color once it is empty. Some documents or images uses a mixture of the toners to create the image so the levels might drop at around the same rate if you are printing certain color documents or images. To see what might be going on, I suggest contacting support at 1-800-652-2666. Our agents would be happy to check the settings and what is normally printed to see what is going on.

It isn't "designed that way." Each color uses what is called for on what you are printing. If you consistently print materials that have the same (or close) demand for each color, they will run out together. Otherwise, each color will be consumed at its own rate. They aren't "linked" together.

Since you can monitor toner levels, I'm not sure why toner running out comes as a shock.
