Greetings,

@CraigS26

Your issue shouldn't be something that you have to "live with".

Although it's not specific to your Canon printer it's annoying to say the least.

I'm a fellow Canon user like yourself.  I volunteer my time here freely and enjoy trying to help others.  I am more than happy to try and help you get past this challenge.

Uninstalling your printer and it's software is not a big deal.  I'll let you decide.

You start by unplugging the USB cable from it to your computer.  Now click on the start menu button, look for the Settings cog menu and click that.  Now look for Bluetooth and Devices menu option in the navigation pane which is on the left.  Once you click that menu item the page will refresh and you'll see a list in the center of the page.  Look for the Printers heading.  Click on that.  When the page refreshes you'll see your printer.  There will be a button that says Remove.  Press that.  Done!

Now close the settings dialog.  Click on the Start menu button.  Now without clicking anything else type the following on your keyboard c o n.  You will be offered Control Panel.  Click on that.  Depending on the View you have selected, menu options may be listed individually or by category.  If listed individually look for Programs and Features.  If it's listed by category there's a little drop-down selector (arrow) in the upper right hand corner that allows you to select between category and list view.  Change this to list and the list of choices will change.  Click Programs and Features.

The list that displays is going to be all of the programs installed on the computer.  Find all of the Canon software you installed, one by one.  You can right click on each and select Remove from the context menu.  Once they are removed you can close the programs and features applet.

Now go back to the start button and restart your computer.

Now you're ready to perform a fresh install of the printer.  Using the example I provided above run the first application (Printer driver), and connect the USB cable when prompted.  Now run the ScanGear utility.. and last the MF Scan Utility.  That's it.  😉.

Now go back to the start button, power option and select Sleep.  Hopefully this time no more scanning takes place.  After a minute or two tap the space bar on your keyboard.  This should wake your PC and once again no scanning should take place.

Have faith, I'm sure you can do it. 😊

Let us know the results.

Greetings,

How is your printer connected and to what?

What drivers didn't you install?

Use this for reference:

Canon Support for imageCLASS MF465dw II | Canon U.S.A., Inc. https://share.google/n4yv8JXuruBRm4BZi

You will probably need to spend some time  working to identify the program, application or task that's causing this behavior.  Something is running or being "called" during the system's sleep or wake event.

Do you have any scanning software installed  besides what Canon provides?

Thanks for the Reply. Cable Connection to HP desktop ... No OTHER SCAN software ... I see Generic Plus UFR ll V330, Fax Driver, Toner Status, Scan Gear, MFSCAN Utility2  Installed. I let the (Recommended) Master Setup function handle the Downloads. 800-Phone Sppt had me change to the Generic Plus UFR above when the first Driver dnloaded by Master Setup failed to work. I'm not smart enough to troubleshoot this amongst varied Apps - Just posted on rare chance someone had seen and Fixed it.

I see a Generic Plus UFR V3.40 on the Software page now - Vs V3.30 - installed in January. It appears I can Clk on the Dnloaded New and follow instructions per Custom Install. Thanks Again!

Hi @CraigS26,

Please excuse my typo "didn't" vs "did".  Software install.  Looks like you knew what I ment.  🙂

If you're using a USB connection you should install the drivers in the following sequence.  Please note a USB connection should be made directly to your computer's USB port and not through a hub, adapter, or alternate connection method.

[Windows 64bit] Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver V3.40.   **Note you should not connect the printer until prompted to do so by the software installer.

Then install:

[Windows 64bit] imageFORCE 1440F ScanGear MF Ver.11.3.0.0.mf63

[Windows 32bit & 64bit] MF Scan Utility Ver.2.0.2

It might be wise for you to start over.  However you will need to remove the printer, uninstall all the software and restart before doing so.

I would not run the master setup.  The Send Settings Tool or Toner Status.  These are optional, but are not needed.  Up to you how you want to proceed.

If you need any assistance with removal and uninstall let me know.  Be sure you restart after the removal and uninstall before reinstalling and connecting.

Thanks. Before I saw your Reply to ... Delete all and Reinstall less Drivers ... I followed a Canon Link for "Updating an Existing driver ... DevMgr shows 3.40 Installed and Print-Scan still work. Sadly, I've Searched and looked around in Win 11 and am Not equipped to Uninstall and Reinstall without details I won't ask you to provide. I 'll live with an updated driver only and really appreciate your help!

You're very kind to provide those details & with Macrium images I'll surely try this. W/ your help I Found all the drivers in Con Panel-Programs-Features and Generic Plus & Fax Driver actually say Uninstaller in the list names.

Would the Fax Driver installed be for... IF you're trying to Fax from the Computer vs Canon? I rarely Fax but presume you're NOT specifying a Fax Driver ... means Manual Canon Fax is default included somehow... Right?  I can always add later IF there's a reason so I'll Dnload the 3 Drivers and then begin the steps list. Update as able. Thanks Again"

The 3 Drivers are in and Test Print-Scan is OK. Phantom Scans as stated are Random, so I'll wait and see IF we have a Fix ( eliminating unnecessary drivers is a bonus).. Cannot thank you enough. BTW, After Settings/Printer/Remove... it wouldn't let me Uninstall Drivers in Programs-Features ... Before a Restart. There (for 3 drivers) it did not present the driver in the Box to hi-light as Implied .. I just Clkd a Cleanup Btn and Uninstall progressed. Just FYI for next Helpee.

IF you saw My last post ... would the Fax Driver prev instd ... be for Internal Computer Faxing (long time since I tried that) Vs Canon faxing?  Best to you!

Greetings ,

The fax feature is installed when you install the printer driver. It's optional if you check it.  If you don't, that's fine too.  I fax documents once or twice a year.  When I do, I unplug the line from my phone and plug it into the bottom port on the back of the printer.  I then insert the document(s) into the ADF and press FAX on the LCD.  Then enter the number and press Start.  You'll hear a dial tone, the number being dialed and the fax negotiation sound.  Then it sends.  The printer is set by default to only print a fax report if there's an error.  If you don't get an error report your fax was sent successfully.  You can always review the fax log too.  When finished I unplug the phone line from the printer and plug it back into the phone at my desk.  I suppose the the fax software that gets installed on your computer is helpful but I never seem to initiate faxing documents from my computer. They're always something that I've filled out or signed and then put into the ADF.  Works like clockwork 😉

Your Fax routine was my last way to Fax and it's fine for me that way. If no Phantom Scan in a day or so I think it will be fine & I'll mark Solution.

I just noticed in Programs - Features that no ScanGear line shows ... SCANUTILLA.exe that represents Scan Gear - per my old shtcut - IS in the Scan Utility Folder in Program Files (x86). I Thought I Deleted ScanGear as a "line" prior - and though the normal Utility is 99% for me ... as long as it opens, so be it. You can move on to others with my continuing Thanks!
