MAXIFY GX4010 Usage of maintenance cartridge exceeds print count

In March I purchased a MAXIFY GX4010 printer. Today I noticed that the maintenance cartridge is about 40% full, while the total print count stands at less that number. Is that usage of the maintenance cartridge normal?,
Especially as I read that it needs to be replaced once full, it appears excessive to me to have to do this twice a year.
