There was an extra part in the box that looks kindof like the front of the paper drawer but is smaller. What is this part?

Thanks for the photos!  That's what's known as the legal dust cover.  You can extend the paper drawer to accommodate 8½" x 14" legal-size paper.  This makes the paper drawer stick out from the front of the printer, though, and you'll put that cover on to keep dust and other stuff from falling into the drawer.
