Pro-4100, M1 Mac, Cannot print from PPL

I just started using an M1 iMac running Big Sur.

When I try to print from Professional Print and Layout (PPL,) I get a dialog box that says "Printing, please wait momentarily." In the PPL Job Manager window, the status is listed as "standby." When the dialog box goes away, the status changes to "Error-Please check the printer's panel or the remote UI."

There is no information on the printer's panel.

The Remote UI comes up blank.

I can immediately print using the standard interface in Photoshop, however if I use  the PPL plug in in Photoshop, it will not print, I just end up with an error message and no way to troubleshoot why I'm getting it.

Pleasde help, I have no idea where to start.

Solved.

All of the pieces of PPL have to be removed. Since there is no "uninstall" (bad design, Canon) you have to manually find and trash out all of the folders. If you don't do this, and just reinstall the software it doesn't seem to overwrite the defective software. (Again, bad design Canon.)

I found instructions for removing the old files here: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART177676
