Printing with black cartridge only with a MX452

Hello,

My colour cartridge is empty however the printer will not print in grayscale only with just the black cartridge. I only print in grayscale and have no need for colour.

It's my experience that grayscale requires black and colors. This has been true on all the inkjet printers I have owned.
