MX922 says paper tray is empty when it's not

My Pixma MX922 is now doing this thing where once I push print, the Canon printer screen says, "Paper Tray is empty, please fill the tray and then push Ok" or something to that extent.  There is always paper in the bottom tray.  However, the printer is trying to pull paper from the upper tray which I've never used since it seems to be for small pieces of paper like 4 x6 size.  I then have to go to my compter and instruct it to tell the printer to take paper from the bottom tray which is a real pain.

My printer started doing this about 6 months ago after having it for years.  Any suggestions to get the printer to always pull from the bottom tray and not the upper tray?

Much thanks!

Hello.

The printer will feed from the upper tray when a smaller size has been sent to the printer.  Check the settings in your program to make sure that the correct size has been specified before printing.
