My Canon MCF731cdw printer started doing something weird. It periodically wakes up and does a scan by itself although no scan was initiated or there is no paper on the glass plate. It seems to be doing it every few minutes.
I tried canceling the spurious scan job, but it doesn't seem to stop it. Power cycling it doesn't help. I also reset the entire settings of the printer, but this continues. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can stop it? This is getting really annoying.
Thanks.

Would it be possible to connect the printer to the network via an Ethernet cable as opposed to Wi-Fi? 🤔
Another step to try during downtime would be to default the unit and program it from scratch. Lastly, if all else fails, contact Canon Customer Support.

It is already on LAN.
It seems that this happens then one of the clients joins the network. For example, yesterday morning the printer woke up at 9 am and started printing randomly only at 9:56 am. That is why logs would be amazing in this case.
I have already contacted the vendor I have acquired this device from.

Canon Customer Service could be another go-to for technical support.
My church's 733 and my personal 743 both operate as expected, thus I'm scratching my head over this unusual behavior. 🤔

I know this is an old thread, but I've been having this same issue with my new Canon ImageCLASS MF656Cdw and I think I figured out an acceptable solution. In the printer menu, I went to Function Settings -> Common -> Scan Settings -> Auto Online and turned it from On to Off. This seems to have stopped the regular awakening and remote scanning. As far as I can tell, this now requires that I need to manually put the printer into remote scanning mode before commencing scanning, which I guess is fine. Better than keeping the printer off by default, which is what I've been doing for some time.
