MF743Cdw install problem

jdelmege

Hello,

I am trying to install a MF743Cdw on my home network. I have done the following:

  Setup the printer on wifi

Verified it is connected by seeing the router gave it an IP address

Made sure I could see it from my PC by pinging the IP address from the command line

Also went to the printer's web page from the laptop browser

I then ran the driver software (picked up from the canon site to be sure it is the latest) MF741CMFDriverV6401W64

  I am using a Windows 10 (64bit) laptop

When I try to install the driver in the very first step "Select Device" it will bring up a progress bar for about 10 seconds then say "The device of the specified IP address is not found. ...".

I can't get past this. I have turned off firewalls, again I can ping it and see the web page, but the install driver software does not seem to be able to find it even if I give it the IP specifically.

I have seen a lot of comments on this problem but do not see anything that helps me. I also tried this with a wired ethernet connection to eliminate the wifi peice and still have the same problem. I am hoping there is some help I can get on this. I can call customer service but I have read that others have done that with long delays and no real help. I hope I can get pointed to some process that will really work.

Thanks,

Turned out I had a program called "web scan" that was out of date, but was the problem. I uninstalled it and then the device driver saw the printer and completed the install. After that I could print just fine. So if you run into this problem make sure you don't have any old virus scan software that you should unusual, it can still get in the way.

Greetings,

"The device of the specified IP address is not found. ..."  Does this mean you are inputting the devices IP address somewhere?

This should detect on its own, even if a static IP is used as long as both computer and printer are on the same lan segment.

I get the exact same message whether I enter the IP address by hand into the driver or let it search to find the printer itself. The printer is set to DHCP and gets an IP address as well as the netmask and gateway just fine. I can ping it from the PC and get to the printer's web pages. But the driver install software just seems unable to find it. I also updates the printer software and that worked fine, so it can communicate with the internet just fine and is up to date.

I spent several hours yesterday working on this. Never had a printer this frustrating. Today is Sunday, a day of rest, so it went to the basement still not working. Maybe I should have gone with Epson. I hope someone can help me.

Stephen, thanks for the reminder. I have been to the canon site, registered my printer and will connect with them. But to be honest I have more hope to get a real answer from this forum even if it is not quick. Also because I seem to see a lot of discussion about this problem I figure no matter where I get an answer from I will post it here to help others that run into the same problem. So just throwing the net as wide as possible in hopes of getting a real solution.
