The MF-644 cdw printer will no longer scan or fax or let me access the home menu because it says that the three color cartridges are at "end of lifetime" - which have not been used for more than four prints in the three years we have this printer. There is toner in the black cartridge. The crazy thing is it prints - in black and white - but no other function works! This is crazy! The three color cartridges I don't use will cost over $300 to replace and then not be used and will age out again full of toner (as these are when I remove them and feel the weight of the toner inside). The red circle with an upside down triangle inside does not respond to pressing or holding in for five seconds as some search I made came up with. The home screen button does nothing other than bring it out of sleep mode and show me the screen that says the three cartridges are at end of lifetime. I had stumbled upon a way several days ago to get the home screen to stay on and I found a setting to stop the printer from checking the status of the toner cartridges but apparently that did nothing - and now I am locked out of the home menu. There has got to be someway to get this printer to do what toner cartridges are not needed for - as in scan to the PC and Fax out from the scan feeder. Canon must think their customers are made of money to freeze the printer and all of its functions when there is still toner in the cartridges. Can't afford to shell out for cartridges we don't use or a new printer/scanner/fax! PC is Win 10, laptop is Win 11 - both will get the printer to print but not scan. Scanner says "BUSY". With no scans made it is "BUSY" when trying to scan. Pulled the LAN cable - put it back. Shut off from the switch - no different when turned back on. Pulled the plug from the wall - no different when it came back on! HELP!!! Thank you!

Given the problems you are experiencing, I recommend you contact Canon Support.
To do that, you will need to register your device in your MyCanon Poral.
Once complete, call support - 1-800-652-2666
I don't think it's necessary to know why you purchased a color laser that you only use for B&W printing. I'm sure there are reasons for this. Please contact support. I'm sure they can help you with your issues.
