PIXMA MX925 No scanning when an ink cartridge is empty

I get that I can not print without ink, but why does the unit have to also block functions that do not require ink? Super annoying when the nearest shop with ink is a 2 hour drive away. I have only used the printer for scanning lately and don't care if everything else is disabled until I get new cartridges.

Hello!

So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know more information.

What is the exact model printer you're using (it's usually on the top or front of the unit)?

Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue.

Thanks and have a great day!

The printer is a Pixma MX 925.

I found instructions to temporarily disable the empty cartridge sensor on some models, but none that will work for this printer.

The printer has scanner and fax functionality which does not need ink to work.  Even black/white and grayscale printing should be possible on this printer if one or more color-cartridges are empty.

Hi.

Canon USA doesn't sell or support the PIXMA MX925, which might be why you can't find information on our site for it.

For models that are sold and supported in the USA, you'll find this article helpful: TAP HERE

Wow, very good to know this!  But why would Canon not supply this info in the printer manual?

Canon products are sold worldwide.

Doing business internationally requires Canon, Inc. to comply with the laws in those jurisdictions for every aspect of the product, from obvious considerations such as electronics components that utilize different voltages in different countries to various regulations regarding health and safety.

But to put it very simply: The products #TeamCanon have purchased here in the United States allows Canon USA  to pay for this Community and keep me and the other handful of Canon employees here and available in tech support. We believe our users deserve great support, but we just can't afford to give it to the whole world for free - we've tried. 😔

Canon's support is greatly appreciated. That said, what does "give it to the whole world for free" have to do with not putting stuff in the owner's manual?
