ImageClass MF656Cdw Initial Wireless Connection Fails

Wireless router:

  • Manufacturer: Commscope
  • Model Number: BGW620-700
  • Software Version: 5.34.4
  • Hardware Version: 02002300460053
  • 2.4 Ghz connection, appears WPA-3 authentication mode. This cannot be changed - I've tried.

ImageClass WF656Cdw

Manufactured: June 2025

Please let me know what you suggest. Otherwise I just need to return this product. Thank you.

Welcome back.

Thank you so much for starting your own topic.

As I alluded to previously, the printer cannot connect to a 2.4Ghz wireless broadcast that uses WPA3 encryption.  The 2.4 GHz broadcast must be set for WPA3/WPA2 combo or WPA2 only.  If you're not able to find a way to do this yourself, please contact the ISP or manufacturer.  I've not come across a newer device that doesn't provide this capability for backwards compatibility.

I'll post an image of mine so you can see what I'm referring to.

Update: Used a workaround since direct router settings would not allow me to change WPA type.

I setup Guest Access on router, which automatically assigned WPA2.
