ImageClass 6xx and 7xx PCL support or the lack thereof

wstagner

Shame on Canon for removing PCL support from literally all of their printers.

This is the defacto standard for the world and Canon one day just removes it

because no one will care.

Well I care!

Yeah, I could have purchased an HP color LaserJet but decided to stick with

Canon because I thought they just might come around and put this

in as a firmware update.

The only ImageClass unit with PCL support was the mf745cdw and Canon

discontinued it!

Hello Wstagner,

When it comes to PCL support in the imageClass MF700 series the current model that has the option is the MF746Cdw. We also have some models in the MF440 and LBP series that support PCL. To check which PCL supported printers we currently have, feel free to contact our sales team at 1-800-385-2155. A sales agent would be happy to assist.

Hector, thank you for your reply but the MF746Cdw doesn't exist FOR SALE anywhere that I can see.

I can still find MF745Cdw but at over $600, it's out of my price range.

It would cost Canon literally nothing to update the firmware of all mfxxx existing models

to include PCL support.

I managed to find a 745cdw for a reasonable price and it works great, albeit it's a "beast".

The PCL6 printer driver works fine and I notice no discernable performance difference using the UFRII driver.

This kinda confirms my original speculation that not including PCL support on the cheaper printers is strictly a cost saving thing.

Again, realizing hardly anyone cares about this other than me.
