ImageClass MF641Cw printer tells me to connect the computer before scanning. I had this printer since last year. No major problems until recently. I use the WiFi to connect to the computer. The machine can print perfectly, yet it cannot scan. I also cannot scan to USB.
I tried the Canon Printer Assistant. It showed that the signal strength is 0%. How can this be possible?
The printer can receive data from the Windows computer but not send. It suggests to move the printer or the router closer. Neither have worked.

I'm experiencing the same issue, I have just bought a new laptop with windows 11 pro installed. I can print wirelessly but can not scan. It shows error message "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off." This same error message also displays when I'm using the printer directly to scan to computer.
Canon team, please resolve this issue asap.

Hello,
If you are able to scan from the computer but get that message when scanning from the operation panel, it will mean something is preventing the scan from reaching the computer or the incorrect device is selected on the operation panel. You can check the device that is selected using the steps in the link HERE. Make sure the name of the PC is selected in step 4, and it is not set to the USB option.
If you continue to run into issues, I suggest contacting support directly over the phone at 1-800-652-2666. They can check the network and scan settings to see what is causing the issue.
