I am trying to print an address on an envelope from Office 2007 to a MF8580.
I've done this operation many times over the years, but on this printer I get an error light regardless of which tray I use for the envelope.
The user manual does not cover this aspect. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting this. This allowed us to use the Multipurpose tray. Our new printer is the first one we've had where it didn't automatically select the MP tray so we had no idea how to utilize it until I found your reply.

I have tried all of these options and it still will not work. How do you fix this? It does not seem to detect any paper that I put in the multi-purpose feeder. I need to print envelopes ASAP and so far everything is a "no go" with this printer. If this cannot be fixed I want a refund.

You have two options. I found that if you pull the paper feeder tray out it selects the MP tray. Scoll down through the paper size options and choose the envelope size then print your envelopes. You can also hit preferences when the printing pop up come and select the MP tray.

MOST ANNOYING PRINTER I'VE EVER USED!!!
Worst driver.
Worst menu system ...
AND definitely the WORST at printing envelopes!
I have a $149 HP that prints envelopes lke a champ! I though I was upgrading with this Canon, but boy was I wrong. Besides that fact that the Print to Fax feature has about 5 steps too many.
Ok, rant over.
Let's print some envelopes! Any time I print an envelope, it either prints TINY and sideways, or straight but misaligned.
PLEASE someone help out!

Every time I get an email about this printer I get mad, again.
I have had success printing envelopes through the multi-purpose tray (fold down door), but never through a drawer.
But lets talk about poor color and misaligned color.
I can tell you how many times I've had to reprint papers because it prints the whole page yellow, then the next page red, then the next page green. It's as if this [Removed] is cursed.
I called Canon tech support. USELESS! We went through the whole "Unplug, plug in. Calibrate [Removed] steps"
If I could throw this printer directly back to Tokyo and let it smash on their front door step, it would be worth it!
Word of advise for anyone thinking about buying this... Don't! Find another option.
(sorry to be "that guy")
