I am a 75 year old person who is spending 2 hours so for to find outhow to change the "collate off" to collate on and keep it that way forever. Every time I turn off the machine, it goes back to Collate off

Greetings,
Unless changed, collate will not stay turned on by default.
Have a look at the D570's Manual:
Collating Printouts by Page - Canon - imageCLASS D570 - User's Guide (manual.canon)
You have the ability to change the default behavior of the printer drive and can save that as a default setting so pages are collated each time you print.
Each profile can be set to with specific parameters that meet your needs. Examples are:
Paper size and type
Collate
Black, greyscale or color
Setting profile defaults allows settings to be retained after a restart.

Hello Mardi,
By default the collate setting for copies is turned off. Whenever you turn the machine off and on it will go back to that default setting. To change that, you can go into the printer menu using the steps provided in the link HERE. Those steps will let you change the D570's default settings. If you are still having issues changing the settings, feel free to contact support at 1-800-652-2666. Our agents would be happy to help.
