What is a good starter camera for photo classes?

The Canon Rebel T3i, with a zoom lens in the 17-55mm range. The 18-55 kit lens is OK for a beginner; if you're really serious about it and have a few more $$ lying around, consider springing for the 17-55mm f/2.8.

Read as much about photography as you have time for before you start the class. That way, you'll hit the ground running and get more out of the class.

I couldn't agree more with Robert. Canon has not really changed the sensor in any meaningful way from T3i to t4i to t5i, so it is still pretty current, but it sells at a lower price, so it's a bargain.

What kind of photography class? How much do you have to spend on it?
