Trouble applying for cashback offer from Canon Australia

I recently purchased a  Canon product from one of the retailers in Australia. There is a cashback offer going on and I applied for cashback but I am getting email from canon mentioning that the serial number on the product is not valid. I don't understand what's going on? I unboxed the camera and applied for cashback. I don't think retailers are selling duplicate canon products inside the box.

I doubt Canon USA can assist you with a product or cash back rebate for a product sold in another country.

Start by conforming with support that the retailer is in fact an authorized dealer.  

Are you able to register the camera?  If you are having a problem, ask support for assistance.  If the product cannot be registered, it might be counterfeit or gray market.  

This is technically between you and the retailer.  I be pressing them to make it right.
