Hello!

Trying to start using an old Powershot G2 again. Overwhelmed with not knowing what to buy. I need a battery charger and the correct memory card. Please let me know what direction to go to. Preferably trusted websites for purchases.

thanks 👍🏼

This is quite an old camera, but you may have some luck as the batteries it used where in several other cameras.

The camera uses the Canon BP-511 battery, but can also use the BP-512 battery. The BP-512 is the same as the BP-511 but has a flat top so it looked neater when used on the outside of camcorders at the time. Later  the BP-511 was updated with more power and called the BP-511A.

The charger for the batteries is the CB-5L.

You may find third party chargers and batteries are still in the market, but I am sure they are not still available from Canon.

Secondly the PowerShot G2 uses CompactFlash memory cards for image storage. These CF cards are still produced, but the camera is probably limited to the maximum card size of 2GB. When it was on sale in Europe the camera shipped with a 32MB card! Finding new 2GB CF cards might be a challenge too.

As to websites... B&H has the battery charger and BP-511A battery. I found the battery at Adorama too.

B&C Photo/Video sells the Watson BP-511A battery and a charger:

Ebay lists numerous BP-511 and charger combos. Kastar is pretty good. I'd avoid any of the other "brands".

Camera shops may have smaller-size CF cards laying around that aren't made anymore. Look on eBay also.
