My printer is now printing pictures in faint pastel colors. It copies in vivid colors. ??

1) Make sure you have the right paper type setting selected for the class/type of photo paper you are printing on. The color issue you are mentioning is 98% of the time due to having the wrong paper type setting.

2) Use only genuine Canon photo papers.
