Forum for expert critique and discussion

I hope this question is not out-of-line on this forum. This forum is my go-to for technical assistance but I'm looking for a forum what actually invites, rather than discourages, comments and critique on photos. Facebook is a wasteland and most administrators actually forbid comments or critiques to fend off trollers, but it also limits learning.

I'd welcome informed comments about composition, exposure, focus, story, etc. Anyone know of something? (It could even be Facebook, if they allow the critiques.)

Hi Skip70,

I totally understand the desire for a more constructive space where you can get detailed critiques on your photos! While Facebook can be limiting with critiques, there are a few other platforms where photographers gather and openly share feedback:

  1. 500px: A great platform for photographers of all levels. They have a community where critiques are encouraged, and you can get feedback on various aspects like composition, exposure, and focus.

  2. Flickr: Another established platform with groups focused on constructive feedback. You can join specific critique groups to get more detailed commentary on your photos.

  3. Reddit (r/photography): This subreddit allows critique in a supportive environment. It’s a good place to post your work and ask for specific feedback on technical aspects.

  4. DPReview Forums: Known for in-depth technical discussions and critiques on photos, gear, and techniques.

  5. Photo.net: A photography community that encourages critiques, discussions, and learning through comments on posted photos.

I should say that generally there is not much real criticism. If you want that, I suggest that you post a photo, and specifically say what kind of criticism you want.

That said, why do you think that us yahoos would be better than anyone else?

Uh, oh...I feel old! I'm only aware of one of those and am not even on it!  I'll check them out. Thank you.
