PIXMA TS3522 won't pull in paper without crinkling it

I have alot of things I would like to say. First of all, I would like to say I am very unhappy with customer service and website of this product. I will never buy or recommend anyone to buy a canon product again. I have went through all kinds of issues trying to get my product registered and find a phone #. And when I did find a phone #, The website told me I had to pay 19.99 to have someone speak to me about my issue. Then sent me to this site to have to type a long paragraph to tell someone my problem. That is poor customer service. So we will see if this works or not. I have a canon printer ts3522. I purchased a couple of years ago. I am not sure what is going on with it because the printer part has not been used in a while, scanner works and has been used. Purchased more ink and needed to use my print part. It printed one time one sheet of paper and now it will not print at all. It is stating my paper is not in tray correctly. I have fixed the tray followed all directions still not working. It tries to pull my paper done in it but just crinkles it. Tried different kind of paper still not working. This is very frustrating and I am not happy with my printer of the service that I am receiving. I guess you have to be a person with a lot of money to get top treatment. If anybody knows what is going on or thinks they may be able to help a poor person, please let me know. If not I guess I will have to purchase a new printer of another brand like HP and get better service.

Hi there,

I wanted to jump in because I can hear how frustrated you are, and I want to help get this sorted out.

First things first: Please put your wallet away. I know seeing a fee on the website is jarring (that $19.99 is for phone support on out-of-warranty units), but here on the Community Forum, help is always free. I’ve got you covered.

Let's look at the printer:

Since you mentioned the printer sat for a while, the "crinkling" paper is almost certainly a mechanical issue, not an electronic one. The good news is that since you just bought new ink, you actually installed fresh print heads, so once we get the paper moving, it should print perfectly.

Usually, when a printer sits, dust settles on the rubber rollers that pull the paper in. Instead of gripping the sheet, they slip, the paper goes in crooked, and it crinkles.

Try this before anything else:

  1. Flashlight check: Turn the printer OFF and look down the rear slot with a light. Make sure a pen cap or paper clip didn't fall in there.

  2. The clean:

    • Grab a damp cotton swab (water is fine).

    • Reach down into that rear slot and wipe the little grey rubber rollers you see.

    • (For a detailed guide and official diagrams on exactly where to clean, check out this article: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART179688)

    • If you can, rotate the rollers with your finger to clean the whole surface.

Let them dry for about 10 minutes and try again.

If it still crinkles:

Since it's been a few years, the printer is likely out of warranty. If cleaning doesn't fix the feed, the gear mechanism is likely broken.

If that’s the case, don't worry—you qualify for the Canon Upgrade Program. It’s a loyalty benefit that gives you a discount on a replacement since your current one is down.

  • The Number: 866-443-8002 (Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm ET).
  • The Message: Just tell them, "I have a TS3522 with a hardware failure, and I want to use the Upgrade Program."

Give that cleaning a shot and let me know if it grabs the paper!

Thank you so much for your response! I tried that and cleaning the rollers did not work. It did pull the paper down a little bit farther than before but crinkled paper worse.

It crinkles the paper but is it jamming in the printer also?

I suspect you already know this, always use a good quality printer paper, some off brands are far too light and a lot of printers will not feed it through the paper path with out issues.  Secondly do not overload the tray, this can also cause a paper feed problem.

There is also a printer generated roller cleaning program as described here:
