EOS R50 1.4.0 Firmware Update File Error

jadagxvxa

Hello! I recently purchased the Canon EOS R50, and after accepting a request to update the firmware to version 1.4.0 (which i assume was to be performed over Wi-Fi), the camera indicated that there was an Update File Error at 81% completion and advised that the battery and memory card be reloaded. Upon doing so, the same error occurred at 81% loading and it has done this ever since..

Now, the menu or any functions cannot be accessed via the camera for troubleshooting and the phone registered to it via Camera Connect does not have access to it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey jadagxvxa, welcome to the site and very sorry to hear about the firmware challenge.

When it comes to a firmware error your best bet may be to reach out for support especially since you have no way to access menus. The staff is solid, they deal with these types of challenges frequently and most likely have the deepest knowledge base for resolution. This number will get you in contact with support 800-652-2666

Good luck.

Greetings,

We're sorry you are having issues with your camera.  ☹️

Please remove the memory card and battery from your camera.  Press and hold the shutter button for 15 seconds.  Now reinsert the battery only and attempt to power on the camera.  If it doesn't turn on normally, the camera is bricked and will need to be sent to Canon.  If the camera powers on normally, I suggest you buy a card reader and remove the corrupt .FIR file from the memory card manually.
