Purchase EOS R6 Mark II or wait for future ?

Hi there,

I intend to buy canon EOS R6 mark II in this May. However, I hear about the release of canon R8 mark II in early 2026. Is it worth buying canon eos r6 mark ii right now or wait for couples months to get the newer generation ?

This is a perpetual question when "rumor ware" is mentioned. Unless/until a definitive date for a new product is announced there is an indefinite target. If your goal is to be taking photographs you probably want the "bird in hand".

I would have  to agree with John. The rumor the the R7 MkII was being released has been made by one site multiple times incorrectly starting in 2025 and so far through 2026. People make these release dates up as a form of click bait.

I recently traded my R6 MkII in for the MkIII for the additional functionality but the MkII is an outstanding camera. Chances are very small that an R8 MkII would be a better camera than the R6 MkII. I believe the saying goes.... Buy Nice or Buy Twice

If you always wait for the next camera that s coming out, you will never have a camera.  The R6 mark II is a different type of camera than the current R8, which is a lower tier body than the R6 series.  I own the R6 MarkII and love the camera.  Who really knows what the updated specs will be and when it will actually debut?  The R6 MarkII is targeted more to wildlife and action shooters, with more capabilities like IBIS and better weather sealing for that type of shooting.

How much are you going to miss by waiting? Some photo opps only come around once in a lifetime especially if it's your kids.
