Help finding compatible new camera body

RaifeBlakeVtM

Greetings, so I’m a relatively amateur photographer, and stepped away from much photography for quite a while, but hoping to pick it back up some.
My current camera is an EOS 60D and I have several lenses, filters, an extended battery grip, and a couple of flashes.  Given how expensive these can be to replace I’m really hoping there’s a current model where most or all of these things will still be compatible.  What’s your best advice?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings!

Canon stopped introducing new DSLR bodies before COVID. There is still a dwindling supply of new ones in some places.

Canon has been introducing MILC bodies since before COVID.  This would be the R Series of cameras. They have both full frame sensor bodies and APS-C sensor bodies like the 60D.

Your current lenses can be adapted to use on the R cameras.

Canon offers more than one type of mount adapter, which I leave on the body.  I have to remove it to use the new RF lenses.

The flash shoe has also been updated. Many older flashes require a shoe adapter.

Is your 60D not working properly? For the type of shooting you're hoping to do, what seems to be insufficient with the 60D or another DSLR?

Canon has a great EF-to-RF converter that maintains backward capability with using EF lenses on RF bodies. I have one and it works flawlessly.

As for a camera body it will come down to how much you want to spend and whether you want a full-frame or an APSC sensor. I have an R8--Canon's most affordable full-frame--and it is a great camera. The R8 is a bit of a battery eater, but not absuredly so, thus having a spare, fully-charged battery is wise if you head out with an R8.

it is my understanding that the R8 does not have a Canon battery grip. There is an off-brand grip and I could really use it, but I am just hesitant to trust a third-party product.

What's wrong with the 60D?  It's a fine, highly capable camera. I have one. It's compatible with all EF and EF-S-mount lenses, so there is a lot to choose from. New stuff is available, and tons on the used market from excellent used dealers.

Please avoid the idea that you have to upgrade to mirrorless, just because. Look at newer used DSLRs, if you think you need more than the 60D offers.

It’s having some focus issues and color capture seems off as well (as in what is seen with the eye is not the colors that seem present in the captured image

Are you shooting in RAW or Jpeg? As far as improving color goes, you may be leaving a lot on the table if you're not shooting RAW. Have you tried resetting the camera back to its original, as new condition?

@RaifeBlakeVtM I recently passed my 60D to my daughter after picking up a MILC. I thought the 60D would still serve me well but the focus system on mirrorless just left it collecting dust in a cabinet. As an example the 60D has 9 autofocus focus points, the R7 which has IBIS has 651 automatic AF areas.

Knowing what you want to spend would greatly assist us in making some recommendations. Personally since you are going to upgrade I would look at a body with IBIS, it does wonders when you mount a long lens and allows you to fudge your shutter speeds handheld when the occasion arises.

Like Lee I use the Canon EF/RF converter, tested several and in the end the Canon had zero issues. I can't say the same for the others I tested. If you own Canon EF lenses they will mount up with no issues, you may not achieve the total burst rate on the new body but that is really the biggest complaint. Third party lenses like Tamron or Sigma may need a firmware update to be compatible. I had several Sigma lenses that struggled to focus properly, the firmware update resolved those issues.
