Advice On A New Camera Body: Upgrade from EOS 7D to full frame

Hi, I'm currently using a first generation 7D. My primary lens is a Canon 24-70 f/4.

I've had this camera for about 12 years after buying it used. It's served me well but it definitely has it's limits. I don't shoot professionally. I'm just more of a hobbyist and I use it for travel and just life moments. Some may be content with using their phone, I like to be the guy who has the big semi-professional grade camera.

For staters, I already know it would be wise if I upgraded to the 24-70 f2.8 lens. I probably should have done that to start with.

I considered the 5D Mark iii (used of course) for it's excellent low light performance. I also considered a used 1DX. I'm well aware this is meant for professionals who take pictures every day for a living, but considering these beasts started out at $6,000 and can now be found for around $800... idk, to me that's a **bleep** good deal for a high quality camera.

A friend of mine who's a professional recently steered me in another direction. He says the manufactures aren't really supporting DSLRs anymore and recommended I make the jump to mirrorless. The issue I have with going mirrorless is that the two models he suggested have excellent low light performance but I'm not so sure they'd be reliable for capturing fast action such as kids sports.

The main things I'm looking for are:

Full frame, strong low light performance, fast enough to handle children's sports, and coming in at around $1,000 or less.

Unless of course any of you believe that simply upgrading my lens to the faster 24-70mm would solve my low(er) light issues.
