WFTPairing causes runaway Java process

I installed the EOS Digital Solutions Disk (v 28.5) only to discover following my next reboot (Windows 10) that my desktop was taken over by a runaway Java thread that took up 97%+ of CPU time. 


It took hours of troubleshooting, but I finally tracked the problem down to WFTPairing.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\EOS Utility\WFTPairing


If you're bedeviled by the same problem, the fix is straightforward: 

  1. Run Task Manager (ctl-alt-del | Task Manager)
  2. Click on the Startup tab
  3. Scroll down to WFTPairing and select it
  4. Click the Disable button in the lower right
  5. Reboot

I strongly urge Canon to look into the causes of this problem and find a fix. Please private message me if you need any further info.

It's possible that CAnon has already fixed the problem. 28.5 is not the latest Solutions Disk.
