R5 Wi-Fi Connectivity Blocked by EOS Webcam Utility

Great Day! I hope you are doing well. I've previously posted about this issue and am seeking further assistance. I use the Canon Wi-Fi Utility to remote shoot regularly. Here's a concise description of the problem:

**Problem Description:**

1. I typically enable the camera's Wi-Fi and connect it to my laptop, experiencing no issues with wireless or wired connections during photo shoots.

2. However, as soon as I install EOS Webcam Utility Pro (version 2.0), the camera no longer connects to the EOS Utility wirelessly. It only connects when hardwired.

3. Interestingly, the hardwired connection works when using my Canon EOS R5 as a webcam via Zoom, as intended.

4. The problem arises when I attempt to use the camera's Wi-Fi for remote shooting at photoshoots.

**Steps to Reproduce:**

I have tested this on two different computers, both running Windows. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:

1. Ensure both EOS Utility and EOS Webcam Utility Pro are installed.

2. Attempt to connect the camera wirelessly via its Wi-Fi or your local Wi-Fi network to EOS Utility.

3. Observe that the camera does not connect wirelessly to the computer while both software are installed.

4. Uninstall the EOS Webcam Utility Pro, then reboot your computer.

5. Try connecting the camera wirelessly again. It should connect as expected without the webcam software, but the webcam functionality will be lost.

**Additional Notes:**

- I am not trying to use both software simultaneously.

- I have verified this issue on both my Windows laptop and desktop computers.

**Request for Assistance:**

I am looking for a solution to this problem and would appreciate any guidance or troubleshooting steps. I would also like to know if others have encountered this issue and if it can be recreated on different devices. Sure I can uninstall and reinstall when needed but I'm sure that's not the intended use case.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It looks like you can't have both utilities installed on the same computer and both trying to connect to a camera via a Wi-Fi connection. You could call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666) and see if they have any suggestions.

Another option is if practical, try connecting the camera with a USB cable when using the EOS Utility.

Hello I stopped the service but didn't reboot. Once once I stopped the 2 services and made sure they are set to manual start vs automatic and rebooted it's back connecting. Thanks

Hello thanks,  I didn't realize one of the features with the paid web cam is to connect wireless so canon was indeed blocking the eos utility wifi connection when both are installed and running in the background. I went back to Waddizzle  suggestion and that worked.  Stopping services ewcservice.exe, ewcpairingservice.exe then making sure they are both set to manual start vs automatic and reboot the pc. Eos Utility is back connecting while the web cam software is not running in the background.

Why are you responding with a question requiring some action.  Your reply, if it is truly a solution, will clearly state the steps needed to remedy the problem.  My impression that your "question" response indicates you really do not have a solution to the problem.  My R5 will only connect to the "paid" version of the EOS Webcam Utility if it is connected via USB Cable.  Right now, I am going to search for an extra long USB cable so I can have the camera be more "mobile". . .

Use the cursor to the right to read through this "long" message.  I would like to share how I established the Wi-Fi connection between my Canon R5 and my home computer network.  The only "variation" on this, is that you are connecting to the EOS Webcam Utility Pro instead of just the Webcam Utility.

In addition to this YouTube video, I also had to learn how to "Reconnect" the camera to the EOS Webcam Utility Pro (paid version).  I also had to do some additional peripheral research about conflicting apps being simultaneously open, etc.  Once the Wi-Fi connection is established between the R5 and the Utility Pro version, and it says "Connected", the Utility app has to be "closed".  Then, you can open Zoom or whatever and select the camera - which in this case would be the Canon EOS Webcam Utility Pro (I emphasize "Pro").  The Wi-Fi connectivity is not "free".  Freedom of movement has a price.  I guess I am not thrilled that I have to go into the camera Wi-Fi menu each time before using Zoom to re-establish the Wi-Fi signal, but I guess it is what it is.  I had to kind of learn by "accident" that I had to "close" the Webcam Utility App before opening Zoom, otherwise the camera image would not appear.  There is a slight delay before the image appears, but it worked.

So, here is my follow-up Word document I created in case I forget how I "Reconnect" the camera every time before a Zoom meeting.

Canon R5 Wireless Setup for Zoom

Open EOS Webcam Utility Pro

Turn on Camera and Make Sure it is set in “video” mode, and insure lens cap is off

In Webcam Utility, click on “settings”

In Webcam Utility, click on “wireless cameras”

In Webcam Utility, click on “Reconnect” for the Canon EOS R5

When the dialogue box, appears, follow the instructions for reconnecting the camera, which are:

Tap “menu” button, go to WiFi icon, tap on “Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connection”

When the name of your home network appears, tap on that name

The camera will search for an access point

When the camera screen says: “Wi-Fi on, click on “Confirm set” which will show the “Basic Settings”

Tap on the “Menu” button until it takes you back to the main screen showing the current image

The EOS Webcam App should show the camera is “Connected”

Close the EOS Webcam App – important – both Zoom and Webcam app cannot be open simultaneously

Open Zoom and sign in with password

After signing in, the home screen for Zoom will appear

Click on “EOS Webcam Utility Pro” as the selected camera

Whatever the lens is pointed at should appear on the screen, but it might take a second for it to appear

Select “Start” and begin Zoom meeting

Camera screen will remain active / on as long as Zoom meeting is in progress

I have not tried Google Meet, but I am guessing the process is similar

In this EOS R5 tip, we'll take a look at connecting to a WiFi network using the camera's built in radios, and then pairing the camera with Canon's EOS Utility for remote control and image transfer on a PC. While the computer in this video is running Mac OS, the processes is virtually identical on
