"EOS Webcam Utility requires an active internet connection" error

Even though I've had this utility installed on this computer before, when I am trying to reinstall either the normal EOS webcam utility, or the Pro version, I get the same error.

"EOS Webcam Utility Pro requires an active internet connection for installation.  Please check your network configuration and proxy settings."

I am thoroughly confused.  Obviously I do have an active internet connection (because I'm posting this).

I tried switching to my mobile phone hotspot in case it was something on my router - didn't help.

I don't have anything running that I can see that would block the installation.  I tried disabling Norton Smart Firewall - that didn't help either.

I tried connecting to a VPN to "hide" the connection - that didn't work.

Has anyone else had this error and been able to resolve it?

The non-pro version of the utility gives a nearly identical error:

"EOS Webcam Utility requires an active internet connection for installation.  Please check your network configuration and proxy settings."

Hello gmullan,

That is a really odd situation. Have you tried accessing the software download on a different computer to see if it is something specific to this machine? I would suggest starting with that. You could also try using a different web browser and/or clearing the cache and cookies in your current web browser.

It's not a problem downloading the installer. 

It's an error when I *run* the installer.
