Why does nobody talk about the seeming fact on the internet, that T5/1200D cameras are not compatible with any AF confirm M42 to Canon EOS adapters? What is the cause of that incompatibility? Does anyone know?

Actually lenses designed over about 10 years ago, don't have any better image quality than today's STM lenses.

Newer IS II L lenses have superior image quality, but, even older Canon L lenses don't exceed the image quality of Canon's modern STM lenses. There just has been that much advancement in computerized design and manufacturing.

Sorry you are much better off not buying old lenses and adapters, and using STM lenses instead.

Yeah, they areSmiley Sad

Re-read these two sentences.  He is correct, believe me as I have adapted or tried to adapt a dozen or more and none have exceeded almost any newer current lens.  Certainly not the newest STM offerings.

"Because Canon offers STM lenses with such high quality low cost there is no reason to adapt old lower quality lenses."

You can get them to work but they are not going to have better IQ.  Focus or no focus not withstanding.

I am not aware of any M42-to-EOS adapters that have focus confirmation.  In fact, I'm not aware of any T-Mount lenses that are auto-focus, none at all.  Maybe they do exist, but I'm not aware of any.  The lens are threaded, which means there is no space or accomodation for electrical contacts to communicate with the camera.

Did you have a specific adapter model and manufacturer in mind?

Also, as far as I think, they are better for video making, since they are made for manual focusing, and exactly that is what you need for video. Also, they are much cheaper, and still they are very well built, and their price is not negligible in a country where people do not earn as much money, as in the USA.

Ok, first and foremost. The T5/1200D doesn't offer any sort of phase detect autofocus during video even when using Canon lenses. It is simply not a feature of the camera. It only offers contrast detect focus during video. It will not give focus confirmation when using manual focus during video, because focus confirmation requires phase detect AF.

You best bet is to get Magic Lantern firmware (if it is available for your camera). Magic Lantern offers focus peaking which is what you want.

Otherwise you need to upgrade to a camera that has a dual-pixel AF sensor for continuous phase detect AF during video.
