I sometimes get large static shocks between my hands and the body of my 5D. Is this likely to dammage any circuitry inside the camera?

Static electricity can generate very large voltages, on the order of 10,000s of volts. So theoretically yes, it could. But so long as you're not opening up the camera body and prodding the circuitboards I'd say to not worry about it any more than you worry about a giant asteroid slamming into the earth.
