will any APS-C lenses work with a full frame?

I'm looking at Canon's new 5D IV but can't afford to start out but with maybe one lens, their EF 24~105. I have a few lenses for my other cameras. the first three go with my EOS Elan, yes I've kept a film camera for 20+ years...I's been to SE Asia, Central America, Hawaii, Canada and England with me.

 Canon

EF 35~135 mm f/4~5.6

EF100~300 mm f/4.5~5.6

EF 50 mm f/1.8

EF 50 mm f/1.4

EF-S 18~200 mm f/3.5~5.6

EF-S 18~135 mm f/3.5~5.6

Tamron

SP 70~300 mm f/4~5.6

16~300 mm 3.5~6.3

SP 150~600 mm f/5~6.3

thanks, Blair..

Canon's EF-S lenses cannot be mounted on a FF camera.

Some 3rd-party APS-C lenses may mount successfully, but at best you'll probably get vignetting. At worst, you risk damage to the mirror.

Well, in the meantime your other four EF lenses should work, though their optical quality may be suspect. And the EF 24-105mm f/4L that you're considering is a fine walking-around lens on a FF camera. Many of us in this forum have it and like it, and Canon has recently announced an even better (and of course more expensive) successor.

In the long run, the 5D Mark IV, a high-resolution camera even by today's standards, requires modern "L" lenses to achieve its full potential. So my suggestion would be that you acquire good L lenses as you can afford them and resist the temptation to be sidetracked by mediocre substitutes. Otherwise, what's the point of owning a 5D4?

Blair,

You only have two lenses, three if you buy the 24-105mm f4L, that I would even use, mount or not, on a 5D Mk IV.

Canon

EF 35~135 mm f/4~5.6

EF100~300 mm f/4.5~5.6

EF 50 mm f/1.8

EF 50 mm f/1.4

EF-S 18~200 mm f/3.5~5.6

EF-S 18~135 mm f/3.5~5.6

Tamron

SP 70~300 mm f/4~5.6

16~300 mm 3.5~6.3

SP 150~600 mm f/5~6.3

B from B is right.  Why buy a 5d4 and than put low to mediocre quality lenses on it?
