eos rebel xti won't take pictures

While using my rebel xti 400d, I saw a flash through the viewer; the viewer display is gone, and the camera will not take pictures.  Made sure there was a charged battery, tried different lenses, tried different settings, cleaned the sensor and cleaned the memory card.  Any ideas?

Hi, daskey!

So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know exactly which part of the camera you're referring to when you talk about the "viewer."  Is this the optical viewfinder that you put your eye up to, or are you referring to the large LCD screen on the back of the camera?  That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks Danny!  It is the optical viewer that you put your eye up to.  The lcd screen appears to be working normally.  There is no display in the optical viewer and the camera will not take pictures at all - in autofocus or manual focus.

Well, just read through some of the other posts and read about one to take the battery out and leave it out so the camera truly powers down.  And it now works!!  Appreciate the response and the helpful info here.  Cat Tongue
