Will Canon repair an out-of-warranty grey market camera (M6 Mark II)?

NickMDal

In all my years, I bought one grey solitary market camera... 🙄  and that's the only one that needs an uninsured repair for a malfunction, vs a drop.

In my defence, I've bought 6 Canon still cameras, 5 Canon camcorders (including an XF605) and many flourite lenses and accessories - all from authorized sellers.

Is there any hope for me?  I realize there's a place in CA that does it, but if I'm going to pay full price, it might as well be to Canon.  I was quoted $460 for repairing the left mic jack channel 😖 (as in my other post).

This is why to not buy grey!

Hey Nick, it might be worth giving them a call. The group that handles tech support are good folks and may help you set up sending to them for assessment.

If you want additional information call 800-385-2155, they have always provided me with direct answers.

They are a great group and have always been helpful when I reached out to the to resolve challenges. Their knowledge of their product line as well as third party lenses is insane.

Hey there!

If you can register the serial number on the site and get an initial estimate for a repair, then it's certainly worth a try to send it in.

Usually, the Factory Service Center cannot repair something that impacts a product's model or serial number if it's a gray market product, nor are they allowed to perform warranty work, but the Factory Service Center makes the final decision when they physically have the product in hand.

You can start the repair process at https://canon.us/account

Thanks for helping! The Canon website doesn't accept the serial number.
