Wifi issue between R7 and Google Pixels

Nico95

Hello,

Since the last update, I can't use the Canon connect app with my Google Pixel 6. Bluetooth connection is OK but I can't use wifi features.

I tried to reset connection, I tried a brand new Pixel 8 and I have the same issue.

I tried with an old Xiaomi and it works.

I think that Google and their uncompromising security policy has broken the Canon wifi connexion.

If I try to connect manually, my phone says "password mismatch".

I'm sure I'm not the only one 😞

Canon, could you please make something for us please ?

Thank you!

It is not clear which device was updated, the camera or the phone.  I will assume the phone.

I suggest that you delete any Wi-Fi camera connection definitions you might have in the phone, as well as resetting your camera Wi-Fi connection back to factory defaults.

And then try to establish a new Wi-Fi connection.  If your Pixel works like an iPhone, then you will want to first establish a Bluetooth connection, which can automate the Wi-Fi connection process.

Greetings,

Have a look at this post.

https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-DSLR-Mirrorless-Cameras/Canon-R6m2-and-Pixel-7-Pro-won-t-wifi...

In it I demonstrate a Wi-Fi only connection using my Pixel6.

I have pixel 8 now.  Working perfectly as well.

Thank you for your replies.

Yes since the update of my phone.

Everything was reinitialised and it does not work.

The Bluetooth connection works very well but it leads to a wifi connexion fail.

I can't follow the last steps of your protocol because I can't connect to the wifi access point of the camera.

Can I know what is the software version of your pixel 8 please?

I have android 14 with December 14 security update on both.

I just tried to connect both the pixel 6 and the R7 to my home network and the application works 👍.

It's not a solution for when I'm not home but it helps.

Greetings ,

Sounds like you're getting closer. It's possible to reset the network settings on your camera which will return the Wi-Fi settings to default.  I don't use any special nickname, just the default which is the cameras model and a subset of its MAC address. It's also possible to forget saved camera profiles in the Canon Connect app. Click on the three lines in the upper right hand corner, then checking and deleting camera profiles from the menu.  If you have a saved connection profile for your camera, go ahead and delete it.  It will be automatically recreated when you go through the pairing process. It sounds like you're very close if you're able to pair with your home network as the intermediary (Access Point).  After enabling Wi-Fi on your camera, open settings on your phone, select network and internet, then internet.  You'll see the Camera's Wi-Fi broadcast.  Tap it, as soon as you do this, a bubble will appear at the top of your phone screen prompting you to open the Canon Connect App.  This is where you'll complete the connection (between the camera and mobile device).  I suspect your phone is connecting or associating with your home Wi-Fi instead of the camera's broadcast (first).

I'm running Android 14 and the same December security patch as you.  🙂 Reset your network settings on the camera. Forget the camera profile on the Canon connect app and then go through the re-pairing process.

1 - Establish Bluetooth connection between camera and smart device running Canon Connect.

2 - Ask Canon Connect to download files from camera, and you will be prompted if you wish to use Wi-Fi because it is faster than Bluetooth.

3 - Click “OK” on phone.   Click “OK” on campers.  Done.

That is all that I ever need to do use the hotspot in the camera to connect to a smart device.

I am having this same issue with my R7 and Pixel 6 Pro. They used to connect, but it hasn't worked in the past week. I'm not sure when the problem started as its been a while since I tried to use the WiFi connection.

- I have reset communications on the R7, deleted the profile in the app, deleted the saved Bluetooth connection in my phone settings

- When setting up a new connection, the phone connects to the R7 with Bluetooth, but the WiFi connection still fails when trying to import images (or anything else requiring WiFi)

- I reset/cleared everything again and tried connecting to WiFi with the camera hotspot. In the phone WiFi settings, I could find the network and enter the password, but the connection immediately fails

- I also reset my R6 network settings during this process. The R6 connects to the Pixel 6 Pro with no problem, so the problem just affects the R7

- My Samsung tablet connects to the R7 with no problem

Thank you for your message 😁

I think they didn't believe me.

shadowsports : I reset everything I can and I accept the bubble but even if I try to connect manually to the default R7 network, it fails.

I don't understand why it works with your pixel. I tried two different pixels before posting this message.

“ The Bluetooth connection works very well but it leads to a wifi connexion fail. “

We need more details regarding what you are seeing.  If you can connect to your home network, then it should be safe to assume that the Wi-Fi in your camera is working.

Telling us that it fails does not tell us what is happening.  Are you seeing error messages on the phone or the camera?  Does it simply time out?

I believe you said it was working until a recent Pixel update.  Have you tried to contact Google about this issue?  What do they have to say about it?
