I take pictures of racecars, I’m trying to figure out what would be a good step up from the T7 for a better speed and something more “powerful” I think would be the term for nighttime action. Was thinking a 90D but after going through some posts that doesn’t seem to be the right route, also looking for maybe a better lense as well. Thanks in advance

Donovan,
I don't shoot racecar and/or "nighttime action". But coincidentally, I very recently upgraded from a T7 to a 90D.
I had considered mirrorless cameras like the R7, R8 and others but did not consider any full frame DSLR bodies because my EF-S lenses could be adapted to a mirrorless body but could not be adapted to a full frame DSLR.
I had been considering the 90D on and off for a while and when I came across an open box special at an attractive price, I could no longer resist. What I wanted that the T7 didn't have was better high ISO performance (and higher ISO range), a faster continuous shooting mode, more focus points and better focusing, a newer version of the Digic processor and some sort of face/eye recognition. The 90D checked those boxes and no adapter is needed to use my EF and EF-S lenses. I don't do much if any video, but the video capabilities of the 90D are significantly more advanced than those of the T7.
I'm not sure why the 90D wouldn't be suitable for what you're shooting and certainly would be better than the T7. But other than maybe some of the same comments and critiques you must have heard and read about its low light focusing capabilities, the 90D may check most of the boxes that need to be checked for they type of shooting you do. Keep in mind that I'm still very new to the 90D and my opinion is based on very limited hands on experience at this point in time.
I would guess that a current mirrorless camera with an EVF, Digic X processor and a fast lens would be better than the 90D for the type of shooting you do and be a better way to "future proof" your camera bag. I have no experience using a mirrorless camera body and I don't know your budget and which lenses you own and want to keep, so I'll leave it others to make mirrorless camera recommendations.
Good luck!

Greetings,
Please tell us about the type(s) of photography you do most. (Sports, wildlife landscapes, etc)?
What lens(es) do you own now?
We also need a budget to work within. If you own lenses now you want to continue using you have 2 options. Another DSLR or a mirrorless body with a Canon Adapter. Depending on what you own and the type of photography you are interested in one or more new lenses might also be a consideration, but this might depend on your budget too.
