Unable to download photos from EOS Rebel SL1

Hi!  I have a very old Canon Rebel SL1.  I have connected it to my HP Elitebook with a USB.  I've turned on the camera, but it is not downloading the pictures.  I have the Digital Photo Professional program, but it doesn't seem to download the pictures.  Isn't there a utility that should connect to the camera and start the downloading?  I would appreciate any tips or ideas on what I am doing wrong.  Thank you.

bssumpt,

You have three options:

1) Use Canon's EOS Utility.

Go to this page: https://www.usa.canon.com/support/eos-utilities

Tell the page that you want support for the EOS Rebel SL1, and tell it your computer's operating system (Windows or otherwise). At the bottom of the page, click Load More. The EOS Utility program is the last one listed. Install and load the Utility program and let it handle the download.

2) Get a card reader and take the card out of your camera, Plug the reader into a USB port on your computer, and insert your SD card into the reader.

3) Do a copy and paste if your computer has a memory card port on it.

I personally use the EOS Utility program to handle the download and don;t take the card out of my camera.

The SL1 isn't all that old.

You don't need any software just to download.  In Windows, with a USB connection, the camera should mount as a drive in File Explorer. Does it?   Open the camera folder, then the DCIM folder, and you'll see your photo files.

If not, you need to troubleshoot. Try another USB cable. Try another USB port. Try another computer.
