Hi everyone,
This problem's been around, but with some twists. My Speedlite 430 EXII stopped working with my T1i. The internal flash does not pop up when the speedlite is attached, and the camera's custom settings for an external flash register that a Speedlite is attached.
So it seems the camera is ok as far as "knowing" a flash is attached.
The flash does work when the test button is pressed.
However, it does not fire at all when on the camera, or one other Canon I tried it on.
Any ideas? Maybe the flash's contacts? They appear very clean.
Thank you!

First, I would do a factory reset to all defaults. Try again.
It is not the contacts.

Thank you. I can't believe it, I've been playing with this issue for literally weeks, and just now cleared the flash's settings through the camera, and it works! I swear I had tried that already, but oh well, as long as it's all good.

Unfortunately the fix was temporary. Camera still recognizes that a speedlite is attached, and the speedlite will fire with the test button, but the camera won't trigger it. Very strnge.
