I have just purchased the Sigma 70mm Art macro L mount  lens.  I want to use this on my 6D mark 2 and my Canon 5Ds cameras.  What adaptor do I need ?

Greetings,

Personal feelings aside, you'll need an EF to L mount adapter.

There is no adapter that will convert L mount lenses to EF mount. The L mount lenses are designed to be located at a shorter distance to the sensor than the EF mount allows.

There are some EF to L mount adapters but such things will not work for you.

The Leica Mount is designed for Panasonic and Leica mirrorless Mount cameras. So it simply cannot be adapted to the EF Mount which is designed for use on SLR cameras.

You should return it and get the version for the Canon EF mount. You will save yourself a lot of grief.

I am not familiar with the 70mm Macro Art but I suspect you can send it to Sigma and have the correct mount installed. Most if not all Sigma lenses have a basic lens group where Sigma can install different mounts. A long while ago I knew several people that did make use of that service. I have no idea of the cost.

You may want to consider this too, "You should return it and get the version for the Canon EF mount. You will save yourself a lot of grief."

Interesting.Do you know if they had to change all electronic parts,or just the contact strip and software?

Beyond the fact they did it is as far as I know. The basic lens looks and is the same. What they have to do to make it work on a different camera I have no idea. Plus I am not sure if it can be done to every lens model but I suspect since the Art series is their top of the line lens, it could be done. Sigma would be the place to ask and find out the cost.

Sigma and Tamron would have to design different lenses for all the different camera manufacturers since they sell lenses for all of them. However if just the mount is what is the difference it makes sense to design the lens body so just the mount needs to be the part that is different.
