Recently acquired a Rebel T8i and in trying out the different features, noticed that the usb port is not connecting on PC nor Mac. Nothing happens or pops up when connecting via usb cable. Tried multiple cables with the same results. WiFi and Bluetooth work fine. Am I missing something? Help a newbie out.

If the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work fine, do you disable them before you attempt to connect via USB?

Greetings ,
Was this device purchased new?
If the device was not purchased new, I suggest you reset the camera settings to defaults and then retest.
If not new, what do you know of the camera's history etc?

Thanks for the quick response. Bought this unit used from B&H Photo and everything looks good with exception of usb issue. I reset all to default as you recommended but still no usb connection showing up. I don't think a Canon cable would make the difference would it? From everything I read it's simply a usb micro b to usb A cable. Ideas?

There are USB A-to-Micro B cables that DO NOT CARRY DATA. They are charging-only cables, which come with lots of gizmos that are charged from USB power adapters and have no need for data transmission. You can't tell by looking at the cable which it is. Buy/get/find a cable that you KNOW is a data-carrying cable and try it. NO, it does not have to be a "genuine" Canon cable. One that is used to link a cellphone to a computer would work fine.

evasquezjr,
The T8i manual recommends the FC-600PCU interface cable to connect the USB cable to the USB port on your camera.
You can purchase this directly from Canon. Mine works flawlessly.

So would a generic A-to-MicroB data cable, for less money!

I tried that yesterday but will do so again now that I've reset everything to default. I'll let you know my results.

That was the fix! Actually, tried again and failed but tried yet another cable (4th one), and viola, connected on Windows PC! Mac still has some kind of issue but it at least gives me a message now about not being able to communicate with camera via usb but, at least it sees it. I feel better already. Thanks so much for the help.

If you are transferring photos, I found it to be more accurate and less trouble to insert the memory card into a slot in my old and new laptops. Did away with the cable and card reader.
