R5 stopped recording RAW

I have my R5 set to record RAW and JPEG on both cards but on a recent trip it switched to recording only JPEGs for a day or so before I noticed and switched back. I had switched around different shooting modes including M, Tv, Av, P, and A+ modes but other than that, I didn’t change any other camera settings. This has never happened on any other of my Canon DSLRs in the past. Has anyone else had this problem?

Greetings,

This has happened to me once.  I can only speculate how it happened.  I have two cards installed. I use the CF Express B card for video and my SD card for photos.  I record RAW + JPEG to one card.

I use default file and naming convention.  In my case I think it had to do with my removing the SD card to copy the day's photos to my computer using a card reader.  I think I closed the media card door when I did that.  Then opened it and reinserted the card.  I didn't turn the camera on while the card was out.  It's never happened again and that's the only thing I recall doing when it did.  Like you, I went about a day before I noticed it wasn't recording RAW to my card.  Now I leave the media car door open when I remove either card from the camera to copy files, etc.  The issue has never reoccurred.  Whatever it was, I'm sure it's something that I did, but it was unexpected.

I agree with Rick.  One highly likely cause is removing a memory card to put it into a card reader.

But, the problem is not removing the card.  The problem is removing the card and THEN closing the memory card door.  Once you close the door the camera will interrogate the card slots.  Your saved slot configurations are now undefined because the camera can only find one card.

What does the camera do under these conditions?  What should it do?  The camera seems to default to the factory default settings, which is usually JPG only.

[EDIT]. The next you remove a card to use a card reader, do not close the door to the card slot.
