I don't know how this happened, but this morning I accidentally set my R5 into video mode and have spent HOURS in the manual and on websites trying to figure out how to switch back to picture mode. My camera is in the A+ mode (Scene Intelligent Auto) and it is absolutely stuck in the video mode. My R5 has been updated with the latest firmware sent a few months ago. Can anyone help me switch from video to picture mode?

Here are the two images as I explained. The A+ mode was accidentally set to VIDEO mode. I was told that switching back to PICTURE mode was simple by selecting MODE and INFO. I have done this many times, both with the physical INFO button and the one on the screen. I followed many other suggestions for almost an hour with a Canon technician who then advised me to send the camera in for repair. This does not seem to be a camera defect to me, it's just my opinion that something I am doing is not working correctly. Note that after selecting INFO as defined by everyone - and the user manual - it DOES NOT change back to PICTURE mode. It is always stuck in VIDEO mode. Can anyone help explain how to fix this?

Final things to do if you haven't done so already:
Remove all attached items (lens, any battery grip, memory cards, flash, etc.). Remove the battery, let it sit for a while, then re-insert the battery and power back on. Any change? If no change, reset the camera again. Any change?
Beyond that, nothing for you to do but send it in to Canon to have it repaired.

These are the same things that the Canon technician advised me to do but none of them worked. I just tried again and still does not work.

The top picture that you show is not video mode, it is photo mode. In the second picture, you have it in video shooting mode. I think that your camera is fine. Here is shot from the camera manual showing the same view as your first picture. This is in the photo taking mode section of the manual.
It shows the same REC: Movie rec in A+ rec.qual as in your picture, but it is not in movie mode, it's in shooting mode.

I must say that nothing you suggested works for me. I have done exactly what you say many times over the past two days and it never works correctly. As soon as I go back to the main menu and press the button to capture a picture it starts video filming.
Moving that "dial" you descrive does not change the picture/movie mode. It switches between A+ Fv P Tv, etc. Now, ALL of the modes are set to VIDEO and I can't set any of them back to PICTURE. Until recently it was only A+ mode that did this.
Note the INFO button in the lower left corner of that image you posted. It clearly indicates that clicking on it will switch between MOVIE and PICTURE modes - but that does not happen now. Also, I am certain that the "REC: Movie rec in A+ rec. qual" message DOES CHANGE if it switches back to PICTURE mode - but it NEVER DOES on my camera.. All of the modes are now permanently set to VIDEO mode and I am unable to restore PICTURE mode.

Then sent in to Canon to have it repaired.

Are you leaving it on the screen that shows A+ Fv P Tv Av M Bulb C1p C2p C3p before trying to take a picture? If you are in the mode that shows that screen, you are in photo mode. If you change to the screen that shows the multiple video cameras, that is the video mode.
Put it in P mode and press the shutter button. Look in the picture review and see if you have captured a photo.

"Also, I am certain that the "REC: Movie rec in A+ rec. qual" message DOES CHANGE if it switches back to PICTURE mode - but it NEVER DOES on my camera."
That is not the case. I posted a screenshot from the manual that shows that wording on the screen and it is showing the picture taking mode of the camera. Only when you see the screen with all the video camera icons, are you in video mode.

Thanks to everyone for your help. My camera does now work correctly. Please understand that it did originally fail to operate correctly by switching between VIDEO and PICTURE modes. A technician at Canon helped me for almost an hour and nothing he recommended worked so he recommended that I send it in for repair (I still have over one year of CarePAK left). Before sending the camera in, I posted my question here to see if anyone could help. Please understand that my camera did continue to be set in VIDEO mode no matter what I did by your recommendations. Last night, I tried again several of the reset functions that had already been recommended by both members here and the Canon technician. All of a sudden... the camera did start working correctly but I do not know why, although it was obviously related to several attempts at resetting. Thanks again for all of your help.

Oh man the same thing exactly happened to us today. Stuck in video mode within the photography mode. Komodo’s on you to be so patient with people not understanding your issue, this is unbelievable frustrating. Will be calling canon tomorrow. Cheers!
