My R3 froze up back in April. The screen is on but it will not release the shutter, allow me to change any settings or focus. The off switch does not work and the only way to power it off is to take the battery out. I never got a response back in April and it hasn't acted up again until yesterday. The same thing happened. Nothing works but the screen is on and turning the switch to off does not turn anything off. I am using the correct memory cards and a canon battery. The first time it happened I was using no wireless connections. It is now setup to use with the canon app on my phone although is was not turned on when this happened. This set up is not new - been using it this way for months with no issues. Has anyone had similar issues? What was the fix? I am traveling until November and don't have the box with me to send it in so hoping there is a solution.

Let’s try a little test. Disable all wireless communications, including GPS.

Thank you for the reply. The first time it happened, I had no wireless enabled and I did not and still do not use GPS - it is disabled. I did see where someone else suggested that but I wasn't using either when it first happened. I have disabled wireless and we will see but this is infrequent event...my warranty is out next month and considering sending it in. Your thoughts?

Hello jholt21782,
I'm sorry to hear of this intermittent issue with your EOS R3. I would suggest updating the firmware to the latest version if you haven't already. That should be version 1.7.1. I have included a link HERE to that update for your reference. You may also want to clean all contacts with every item being used in/on the camera. The lens/lens adapter, memory card, anything being used on the hotshoe, etc.

Thank you for your reply. I am on version 1.7.1. Will also look up how and then clean the contacts. All lenses are Canon so no third party hardware and nothing on the hotshoe.

Third party hardware has been known to cause problems with the R series bodies.

I was asked if I "accept the answers." No, I don't, not yet. Like I said, I never have used GPS, the first time it happened I was not using wireless and all my hardware is Canon. I haven't been able to go out and shoot much lately and like I stated in the first post, it happened in April and then again in July. It's only happened twice and I understand some will say that's not a real problem. For me and what I paid for this camera, it is a problem. I greatly appreciate everyone who has responded but it is too early to say the problem is resolved...
