Note that Canon has used different names for the same model, depending upon the market where they are sold.
The EOS "Rebel" series is unique to N. America. In Japan the same models have been EOS "Kiss". In Europe they have generally just been listed with a model number: EOS "1000".

From your description it certainly sounds like the original "Rebel" that came out in 1990. It had no built-in flash.
The version with the pop-up flash was called the "Rebel S".

The reason you couldn't find it is because Canon lists that camera as the 1000 QD in the "Museum". It was only called "Rebel" in North America: 1000 QD
Canon no longer supports that camera but you can download the manual for free from this private website that specializes in old manuals: Canon Rebel manual
