Can anyone tell me if I need a new battery. MY camera makes a stuttering sound and freezes when I try to take a picture.

Hi rm!
Welcome to the Canon Forum.
This does not sound like an issue with the battery. However, try removing the battery from the camera for about 10 minutes or so, then reinstall it and try shooting again.
1. Do you have the original EOS 5D or a newer version, like the EOS 5D Mark III?
2. How long have you had this camera?

Is there a local repair shop that you can take it too? They can quicky tell you if the battery at fault. Plus take your charger also. It might be it's fault and a new battery won't help.

It ended up not being the battery or the camera. It was actually the lens. It kept searching to focus. Waiting to see how much it will cost to fix.
Thank you for your input.
